An Ischia holiday has much to offer. Ischia has been a holiday destination since the middle ages offering mild weather, thermal Spas and a location in the middle of the Mediterranean sea.

About Ischia

The therapeutic properties in the spring waters on Ischia in Greek times were credited to the Gods, but was later studied and the discovery of its many healing properties were made. The building of spa centres was interrupted for several centuries due to many and frequent Vlcanic eruptions. Around the 1700’s, Ishcia became world famous, especially due to the journals of those who participated in Le Grand Tour, those who travelled around Italy.

One of the many Spa locations on the island is Casamicciola Terme, to the north. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and romantic valleys and covers 5.6 Km Squared, with the neighbouring hills reaching a height of 327 metres. The coastal area along by Piazza Marina, hosts pottery shops and walks with views of the sea and the brightly coloured houses. You can visit della Rita valley and see where the spring water originates or climb up to La Grande Sentinella, where there is are fantastic views of the island. Piazza Bagni is where you will find many thermal care centres and hotels as it is located near the del Gurgitiello springs.

Another spa location is Barano, which borders to the north with Casamicciola. The spring comes out through a ravine in the side of the mountain and flows down to the sea to Maronti beach, where it meets another spring water source from Olmitello.

An Ischia Holiday is full of possible excursions, such as to Capri, Procida and Naples are easy and make great day trips.

Ischia nightlife is quite lively and in the main towns, such as the very hip Forio, you will find plenty to entertain you into the small hours. Live-music can be found in pubs as well as during special feasts on the streets. There are concerts Classical concerts at Giardini la Mortella, Villa Arbusto at the Aragonese Castle and sometimes in the churches.
