Of course the temptation on an island like this is to find one of the many attractive beaches and relax but there are many things to see and do. If indeed a bit of relaxation is what you seek, head to Sorceto. Here you will find hot springs, surrounded by countryside and a isolated beach, reachable by boat-taxi from Sant’Angelo port.

For those a bit more adventurous, head to Mount Epomeo from Fontana, where you can go hiking and magnificent views of the whole island, Naples and Capri are guaranteed, either by day or by night, distantly under the moonlight.

A tour around Ischia Porto, is well worth it. Here you can take in the Castello d’Ischia, situated on a little island of its own, in which there cathedral, a crypt with fresco’s from Giotto, the nun’s cemetery and an exhibition room with changing exhibits.

An Ischia tour wouldn't be complete without going around Casamicciola, where there are various termal springs and spas. Sentinella, upper Casamicciola, houses a Geophysical Observatory in the hills. There are ancient instruements on show as well as a seismic tank designed by Giulio Grablovitz. Also worth a visit near here is Castiglione, which lies between Ischia Ponte and Barano, and has thermal waters of various temperatures.

From Monte Rotaro (on which there is the Cretaio crater) there are paths leading down to Ischia Ponte and Barano. On these paths geysers can be seen surrounded by lush greenery, indicating the presence of volcanic activity.

Sant’Angelo is a seaside town situated in Serrara-Fontana and is a pretty fishermans village, flanked by a beach and the sea. From here take a trip to Cavascura, where there is thermal spring water coming out of the earth at 100 degrees.
